Mark R. Garrett

PRACTICE OVERVIEW

Mr. Garrett’s principal areas of practice are real estate law, residential and commercial real estate transactions and settlements, local government, land-use and zoning, corporate law and the organization of business entities, eminent domain and property rights, and trust and estate planning.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

As a lifelong resident of Hampton Roads, Mr. Garrett was a teacher with Virginia Beach Public Schools where he taught Social Studies before going to law school.

Mr. Garrett graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Mr. Garrett then went to Old Dominion University where he graduated with a Master of Science in Education from the Darden School of Education. After teaching in Virginia Beach, Mr. Garrett received his Juris Doctor from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.

While at Law School, Mr. Garrett was a member of the Environmental Law and Policy Review and participated in the Virginia Coastal Policy Center, where he worked with local governments across Virginia to update their Comprehensive Plans to include resiliency language. Mr. Garrett also worked with the Center for Legal and Court Technology where he worked with Courts around the country to test and implement technology into their courtrooms.

BAR ADMISSIONS:

Mr. Garrett is admitted to practice before the Bar of Virginia.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Mr. Garrett is a member of the Virginia State Bar.
